Since the ceremonial groundbreaking in June last year, a lot has happened. Recently, among other things, the timber girders for the roof structure in section 3/4 have been installed, and the metalwork on the steel grilles in the upper façade area has been completed. As a result, the shell construction is now already nearing completion.
Exciting: All work is being carried out in close coordination with the State Office for Heritage Conservation, as the new REWE supermarket is being built within the listed building complex of the former Wagon Construction Plant. In order to combine historical character and modern design and functionality in the best possible way, a number of aspects must be taken into account. For example, the old steel truss columns have been reintegrated into their original function, supported structurally by new elements. This brings the industrial style of the former wagon factory into the sales area.
The topping-out ceremony is planned for May, and nothing should stand in the way of the opening at the end of the year.
