On Wednesday, june 11, 2025, the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the REWE-market in the old Waggonbau-Werk in Görlitz took place. In the listed building complex with its distinctive clinker brick facade, the new market will create approximately 2,000 qm of retail space, as well as a flower shop and a bistro. In the future, historical charm will meet a modern market atmosphere. In addition to installing a photovoltaic system on the roof, the outdoor area will also be completely redesigned. Among other things, 121 parking spaces with four electric charging stations and a new foot and cycle path between Bautzener Straße and Conrad-Schiedt-Straße will be created. The opening is planned for late 2026.
